All Genres : Designing With 4 Values
By, Jane Hunt
Medium: All

Workshop Details

In my on-location workshops, I encourage students to create several quick 4 value studies as this will help them determine which composition will be most successful.
CHALLENGE: Using the reference photo I provide in the workshop, create at least three designs using no more than 4 values. Use whatever materials you feel most comfortable with: pencil, marker, even paint. These studies can be very loose and fast, the idea is start thinking outside of the box compositionally.

Great lesson in designing from photo and applying that when in the field.

The information relating to planes in the landscape was great. I would have liked an explanation of how some values are used/repeated when aerial perspective is introduced.
